The Working Visit of the President of the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria in Belize

20.03.2012

The President of the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria Dr. Solomon Passy, who is on a working visit in Belize, Central America, had a meeting with Wilfred Elrington, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belize, who was just re-elected for another five-year term.

During the official meeting were discussed several important issues: the possibilities of expansion of the tourism between the two countries; the condition of the Bulgarian investments connected to the tourism industry in the boutique Caribbean country; the nomination of the Belizean Ambassador to Bulgaria; the opportunities of education in the Bulgarian Universities and American Universities, in particular.

Belize is interested in Bulgarian know-how in the field of the renewable energy sources. Dr. Passy invited the Belizean students to use the opportunities given by the Bulgarian Universities and the American University in Bulgaria in particular.

A discussion was hold about the relations between Belize and EU, the acting Economic Partnership Agreement as well as the opportunities, which will be revealed during the future Bulgarian trio presidency of EU with the UK and Estonia (2017-2018)

Dr. Passy made a suggestion to his Belizean host that they should consider the possibility to establish relations with NATO and its Partnership for Peace programme, as well as with OSCE. “The relations of Belize with the Euro-Atlantic Family till 1981, while still part of the UK at the time, could be interpreted in a new, much more prospective way now, 30 years later. Bulgaria could be an active player in this process,” Dr. Solomon Passy said.
